Cladonia Fimbriata

“Cladonia Fimbriata” was created in conjunction to the expansion of Sommesskolan in Tranås municipality and is placed in the schoolyard. The work includes five bronze sculptures that together form a group facing the sun. The work is inspired by Cladonia fimbriata, a form of lichen comprised by a fungus and algae in symbiosis – the algae capturing sustenance from sunlight and the fungus taking advantage of humidity. They depend on each other's properties in order to exist. The sculpture bears the same name as the lichen, offering inquisitive children an insight into a complex interaction between species. We need each other.
